Trust backs bid to prevent suicides
11 February 2005
The Down Lisburn Trust has thrown its weight behind a local campaign to raise awareness of suicide.
Last month Ballynahinch councillor Anne McAleenan brought forward a motion calling on the trust to take the lead in developing a preventative strategy.
Councillor McAleenan's motion was in support of principals from schools in the Ballynahinch area, who have become increasingly concerned by rising suicide rates.
Trust chief executive John Compton said the local health body took the issue of suicide "very seriously," and would work alongside groups to develop a strategy.
